Gus and catHello! I’m August Li, and I really like to make things. I think I’m a pretty good writer and an okay artist–always trying to improve in everything I do. I’ve been publishing fiction for several years, mainly speculative fiction with diverse characters, including LGBTIA+. I also occasionally draw cover art and often draw just because I love it. I also like to experiment with other artistic mediums and enjoy sewing, costuming, hair artistry (wigs, extensions, color, etc.) amateur photography, and customizing ball-joint dolls. Making things exist from nothing–or transforming them–is as close as I will ever get to being able to do magic, and I’ve always really wanted to be a mage.

I finally live at the beach! Yay! The sea is one of my great loves, to the point that I get depressed if I’m away from it for too long. I travel as much as my budget will allow, and I am quite fond of foxes and cats. That’s the sum total of everything interesting about me.

You might notice–on some of my book covers and other places–that I go by a few different names. I currently go by August, though Gus is the nickname most people use. I used to go by Augusta, and here is a quick summary of the reason for the change. A few years ago, I came out publicly as trans, and my publisher, Dreamspinner Press, was wonderfully supportive and refashioned my book covers to better match my identity. That’s all! Some of my older works just still have my old name on them.

If you want to contact me, you can do so here. I will do my best to answer any REASONABLE requests or messages. Sorry, but reasonable is entirely at my discretion. If you are interested in talking about books, art, movies, videogames, etc., I will try to answer, though I am quite busy. I’m always happy to promote other authors and artists here on Fox-Hat’s Friends–as long as the material is appropriate. There is young adult material here, so nothing above an R rating, please.

Tumblr The Tumblr occasionally contains some less than safe for work imagery–my art, tasteful nudes, fandom posts, etc.–so use caution if you are at work, or if you’re not interested in such content.
